When Cleaning Is Not the Answer
Three Things on a Window That Are Not Dirt
All three get mistaken for a window that needs cleaning, and none of them cleans off. Telling them apart is the difference between a job that can work and one that never could.
Fog between the panes
If the haze sits inside an insulated glass unit and no amount of cleaning on either side touches it, the seal has failed and moisture is between the two panes. Nothing done to the outside of that window changes it. After a few years the inside faces are usually mineral-stained as well as foggy, which is why the defogging services disappoint people. The usual repair is a new insulated unit rather than a whole new window, which is generally less than people expect.
Deposit, and the etching underneath it
Water from a sprinkler or a downspout splash carries minerals, dries on the glass and leaves them sitting on the surface. That deposit comes off at any age; spot treatment is what takes it. What does not come off is the glass underneath when water has been hitting the same pane for years, because the surface itself corrodes and ends up pitted rather than coated. Polishing or new glass is the only route from there, and neither is window cleaning. We will tell you which one yours is, and we will not charge for a treatment that has nothing left to take.
Paint, mortar, and construction film
Mortar and concrete splash is alkaline, and left on the glass it will etch it, so it is worth dealing with early. What scratches new glass is usually not the blade: it is debris fused into the surface when the glass was made, which is why a scrape that is fine on one pane ruins the next one. Tell us when you ask for the quote if the glass is new construction, and Angelo will say what is possible before anything is booked.

Should I get the house washed first or the windows?
House first, windows after. A house wash carries dirt and solution across the glass on its way down, so glass cleaned the week before a wash gets undone by it.
