Spotswood covers about two and a half square miles and had 8,163 residents at the 2020 census. Its population went from 2,325 in 1950 to 7,891 in 1970 and has stayed close to 8,000 ever since. DeVoe Lake and Main Street
DeVoe Lake, Main Street, and St. Peter's
Spotswood sits where the Manalapan and Matchaponix brooks meet to form the South River, with the 38-acre DeVoe Lake on the Manalapan Brook. The borough was formed from East Brunswick Township in 1908. On Main Street at DeVoe Avenue, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, built in the 1850s in the Carpenter Gothic style with board-and-batten wood siding, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.

Older wood siding is painted only after it has been washed, sanded, and repaired. Primer goes on where needed, followed by two topcoats of Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams.

Gutters
Every fall the gutters fill with leaves. We clear them by hand, run water through the downspouts, and check them over. We can also brighten the outside of the gutters or make a minor repair; replacements get referred out.
Roofs
The black streaks on an asphalt roof are algae. The roof is soft washed at under 100 PSI, no one walks on the shingles, and the result usually lasts two to three years.
Decks
Wood decks are cleaned, repaired where boards are damaged, and restained, usually every five to six years. We clean composite decks but do not stain them.
Windows
Outside glass, skylights, and hard-water spots are all part of a window job, inside glass is an add-on, and screens are washed separately.
